Yesterday we covered how the Dalai Lama is using Twitter to spread his word. Today we will speak about how the Delhi Police is using social networks to address traffic problems.
Yes, the Delhi Police is now on Facebook. The Facebook Page called “Delhi Traffic Police” attempts at helping the government understand traffic related problems, in part intended to help the city prepare for the upocoming Commonwealth Games in October. The page already has a fan base of 3,090 and the overall response has been very positive.

The page has been highly active with users posting their suggestions on how traffic conditions can be improved.
For eg. user Anuranjan Pegu posts, “Stopping motorcyclists randomly at check posts is becoming a nuisance- many places I have seen them cause traffic jams and its very ineffective despite what the DCP says.”
The Delhi Police even commented a “Thank you for your suggestion” despite the slightly aggressive tone of the post.
This step, is indeed, a very positive one by the Delhi police. Its great to see police and government authorities increasing transparency and accountability through social networking sites.
We can only hope the Mumbai Police takes cue.
